A frame of many capacities, Quonset huts are are tough, easy to move, adaptable and affordable. The way that the metal is manufactured makes it lightweight and able to bend. Quonset huts were engineered for the United States Army during World War Two because the army needed a structure that was easy to move, easy to construct, it proved to be adaptable to any conditions that the army needed it to withstand. The versatile Quonset huts provided for housing while also providing shelter and space for medical facilities, mechanical workshops, libraries and post offices. After the war Quonset huts were viewed as a piece of architectural inspiration in Art and Architecture magazine and their influences can still be seen in the architecture of today that prizes open space.
